Virtual Instructor-Led Training (vILT)

Project Title: Leading a Team in a Hybrid Work Model

Tool Used in Development: AhaSlides, Canva, Powtoon

Client: NAVEX Global

Challenge: Facilitate a leadership development presentation

Solution: I used AhaSlides as a way to engage learners in the introduction of a vILT presentation on how to lead a team in a hybrid work model. The introduction also included a short video in Powtoon about the pros and cons of working from home (WFH), and how a hybrid work model solves some of the problems with WFH. I used AhaSlides throughout the presentation to get immediate feedback from the audience on each topic covered.

Results: This vILT session will be one of many in the company's Leaders Leading Leaders program.

Instructor-Led Training (ILT) & Learner Handout

Project Title: An Update on Family Promise of Tualatin Valley (FPTV)

Tool Used in Development: MS PowerPoint & MS Word

Client: FPTV

Challenge: Inform interested volunteers about homelessness and the FPTV program.

Solution: I created this MS PowerPoint slideshow to use during instructor-led trainings for FPTV volunteers. During the training, I led volunteers in a simulation activity called Making Choices, using the Making Choices Spending Plan handout (shown above). This simulation put the volunteers in the role of an at-risk family. Volunteers would hear different real-life scenarios and had to make decisions that affected their housing, childcare, transportation, food and healthcare situations.

Results: Volunteers reported that they were more empathetic and compassionate with homeless residents after participating in the simulation activity.

Learner Handout & Facilitator Guide

As a Curriculum Consultant for more than a decade, I was hired by educational software & textbook publishers to serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in language arts for English Language Learners (ELLs). I edited content submitted by outside contractors, and wrote original content used for publication.

Learner Handout (above left): Here is a learner assessment rubric that I created to be used by facilitators to provide feedback to learners.

Facilitator Guide (above right): This is an actual mock-up of one page of a facilitator's guide for a National Geographic School Publishing ELL language arts textbook. In addition to my role as SME for this project, I was also tasked with the tedious task of aligning the content to national English Language Arts Proficiency Standards (ELPS). The sample (above right) is one page of the textbook where I've added ELPS standards in green text boxes with orange text color.

Instructor-Led Training

Client: Western Governors University (WGU) Teachers College

Learners: Student Teachers enrolled in the WGU Teachers College

Tools Used in Development: Camtasia video software, Audacity audio software, MS PowerPoint, YouTube

Project: I created a presentation in PowerPoint for an in-person instructor-led training session for student teachers who work with K-6 English Language Learners (ELLs) in their classrooms. The slides include photos, graphics and embedded videos to play during the training presentation.

Then, at the start of COVID when classroom instruction pivoted to remote teaching, I updated the slides to focus on tips for working remotely with ELLs.

I recorded my virtual ILT session using Camtasia, and uploaded the video to YouTube.
